Changeover days can be hectic and stressful, especially during peak season, when guests arrive and depart one after another. To help alleviate this stress, we outline the cleaning and maintenance protocols for holiday letting with Precious Places Peak District.
The most common complaint for short-term holiday lets is cleanliness. First impressions are everything, and in the wake of a global pandemic, guests have become more concerned about hygiene and sanitation. Even a minor oversight, like dust on a picture frame or crumbs under a toaster, can prompt a picky guest to leave a negative review. So, it’s best to be thorough and attentive to detail when preparing the space for your next guest.
What does our holiday let cleaning and maintenance involve?
We use experienced cleaners and maintenance professionals who work diligently to ensure that each holiday let is immaculate and equipped with the necessary cleaning supplies to support guests during their stay. We provide all guests with a comfortable and clean stay.

Our cleaners cover all areas of each room when removing dirt and germs from surfaces, including outdoor areas, bedrooms, kitchen/dining areas, hallways and staircases, living areas, and bathrooms. Once the cleaning is complete, they begin sanitation. High-touch surfaces are thoroughly sanitised with a sanitiser spray to reduce bacterial counts. This includes light switches and lamp switches, remote controls, doorknobs, window handles, hairdryers, thermostats, bins, and railings. After application, the sanitiser spray is left to air-dry.
Final checks
Our cleaners conduct a final check in each room after cleaning and sanitising. All bins are emptied, and rubbish is in the allocated space. They double-check that frequently touched surfaces are sanitised, and windows and doors are closed and locked. Once tasks are completed, cleaners close the door and disinfect the doorknob. Staff safely dispose of cleaning supplies and any protective gear. Cleaning staff confirm the cleaning protocol has been carried out in the comments section of the departure checklist and add notes to the damage description box if necessary. The keys are reinserted into the keybox, and the combination is shuffled for security.
To ensure proper sanitation, we recommended that guests vacate the premises at least 3 hours before the cleaning providers’ arrival. In cases where this is not feasible, such as with same-day check-ins, our cleaners thoroughly ventilate the property before cleaning.
Our cleaning and maintenance protocols

We work with local housekeeping providers
Supporting our local community is a top priority for us. That’s why we choose to work with local cleaning companies and housekeeping providers. Not only does it help keep jobs and money within our community, but it also ensures that we’re creating lasting relationships with local businesses, whether they are large companies or one-man bands! We’re passionate about this approach and believe it’s the right thing to do.
Our housekeepers are under contract
All of our housekeepers are under contract with our business. This ensures that they cannot simply disappear without notice. If this happens, we manage the process via our other support teams. Additionally, our hosts’ properties are protected through a month-long notice period. Giving you peace of mind.
We use housekeeping companies that provide:
- A complete end-to-end service of cleaning and laundry, taking care of everything from start to finish.
- Flexibility of changeover days.
- Last-minute housekeeping, which allows us to take advantage of same-day bookings.
- Help with guest requests, such as local hampers, chocolates, flowers, and celebration banners, for special occasions.
- Support with restocking of fire logs or help with hot tub maintenance.
- Ensure enough supplies, such as toilet paper, hand soap, cleaning products, and other necessary items, are available for each changeover.
- Sustainability. They may use sustainable cleaning supplies and other eco-friendly products.
Trust and confidence
Our cleaners are security-vetted, background-checked, and interviewed to ensure they have the necessary skills. Cleaning providers are required to inform us of any issues, breakages, or leaks they encounter during their work. We only use cleaners we can trust and have complete confidence in.
So that’s our cleaning and maintenance protocols for holiday letting! Hopefully, you have found this article helpful. We strive to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness across all our holiday-letting properties. We understand that providing our guests with a clean and safe environment is paramount, and we take this responsibility very seriously.
